Sam Burgess is expected to return for South Sydney for their round five clash against Manly next week.

Burgess was hurt and spent several days in hospital with suspected neck damage following a massive collision in the match against the Dragons.

The Englishmen has been cleared of any serious injury, but is likely to miss this Friday’s game against the Bulldogs.

Souths take on the Sea Eagles next Thursday.

“He should make a full recovery,” Maguire told The Daily Telegraph.

“I couldn’t imagine he would be playing on Friday but you never know — he is an incredible human being.

“The first thing we will be looking at is welfare. We will check everything first and talk to the doctors and surgeons.

“We want to make sure we are looking after him, that’s the first point. We haven’t even discussed when he is going to play.

“They are pretty positive it’s not a major injury. Once the physios get hold of him, who knows what the time frame will be. It’s a bit of an unusual one, but being muscular, once the physios get hold of him, they will be able to sort him out.”
