Burgess says Watkins would be an NRL star

Sam Burgess believes fellow Englishman Kallum Watkins would be a hit in the NRL.

Burgess said he ththinks Watkins would shine in the NRL competition if he made the move down under.

“I’d like to see Kallum Watkins. He’s currently playing at Leeds Rhinos and he’s a great player,” he told Triple M.

“In a good system with some great training over here I think he’d be amazing.

“It will be interesting to see how Zak Hardaker goes.”

Burgess was asked why so few English backs are successful in the NRL, while many English forwards do well in the Australia.

“Back home everyone’s in the gym, it’s so cold,” he said.

“The big guys are getting the bigger games because the field’s are a bit slower, it’s a bit wet.

“Where as over here you’ve got athletes, you’re outdoors nearly 10 months of the year.

“So your making the most of your time outside, where as in England your time’s limited.

“You’re not getting the chance to pratcice in and way the flick pass, the dry gorund football. So I think maybe that’s a reason.”
