Wigan winger Joe Burgess has asserted that the Warriors will be back at Old Trafford next season for another Grand Final.

His team lost to St Helens 14-6 in Saturday’s big occasion, but the youngster, who is part of Steve McNamara’s England squad for the Four Nations, is sure that they can bounce back next season.

“It’ll stick in my mind and I’ll remember this,” he said.

“I don’t ever want to feel like this again. But we’ll work hard in preseason and we will be back here. I know we will.”

Wigan were reduced to 12 men following the dismissal of Ben Flower in the second minute of the game.

Burgess believed the Warriors coped very well with having to play with a man down.

“We went in the dressing rooms [at half-time] confident and we came back out confident,” he added.

“It was just silly penalties and silly mistakes that killed us.

“We stuck in there and we worked for each other. It didn’t feel like we had a man down.

“It looked like they were struggling to cope with us at times, but the mistakes killed us.

“They took their chances well, their tries took some finishing. It happens, doesn’t it?”

Burgess also had no issue at all with Flower being sent off.

“It just happened so fast. It was a red card, he hit him on the floor,” he said.

“You can’t argue against it.”
