Burgess delighted with Salford debut

Luke Burgess says he was pleased to start the Super 8s with Salford with a win and on his debut for the club.

The Red Devils accounted for Huddersfield 34-12 at the AJ Bell Stadium yesterday.

“It was really good,” Burgess said.

“Obviously it was good to get the first game out of the way and it was really nice to start with a win.

“We spoke about getting off to a good start and I feel like we’ve done that this week.”

Burgess was playing in his first game for Salford after joining from Manly.

The Red Devils raced to a 20-0 half-time lead against the Giants, with Mason Caton-Brown scoring a hat-trick.

“It was a big focus for us this week,” Burgess said.

“We really wanted to get off to a good start against a great side. Certainly in the first half we played really well.

“A couple of errors where we slacked off a bit but I’m sure we’ll put it right this week and be firing next weekend.”

Salford next face Leigh at the Leigh Sports Village on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a good game,” the prop said.

“Obviously Leigh have had a great season so we’ve going to have to be on our best performance again.”
