Bradford Bulls have confirmed that the contract of Phoenix Hunapo-Nofoa has been cancelled by mutual consent.

The Championship club were unable to secure a work visa for the player, who has played international Sevens Rugby Union with Samoa.

A Bulls spokesman told the club’s website: “We applied to RFL for a Governing Body Endorsement but unfortunately Phoenix did not meet the requirements laid down by the UK Border Agency for players coming into the sport from rugby union.”

Hunapo-Nofoa signed with the Bulls at the beginning of February, but has not travelled to the UK.

The club are still waiting to hear when Geoff Toovey will be given clearance to take over as head coach.
