Buderus to break record

Newcastle hooker Danny Buderus, who recently equalled Andrew Johns’ long-standing record of 249 games for the club, will become a record breaker against Cronulla on Saturday.

Buderus, 35, levelled with Johns last Friday when he took part in the Knights 18-all draw with Brisbane and the former Leeds man is honoured.

He said, “I came back from England thinking maybe that was achievable and after two back operations this year I thought I was a long way away to even getting close to equalling it let alone breaking it.

“I look forward to the Sharks on Saturday night and 250 for this great club. I am honoured.”

Buderus, who made his first-grade debut in 1997, has also got a total of 25 caps for Australia, and 21 State of Origin appearances for New South Wales to his name.
