Widnes prop Jack Buchanan will leave the club at the end of the season after failing to agree terms.

Buchanan, 25, joined the Vikings midway through last season and has made 39 appearances.

Coach Denis Betts said: “Whilst we offered Jack a contract extension that we felt recognised his value to the team, we were unfortunately unable to come to an agreement.

“Jack has been a great ambassador for the Vikings annd an excellent player on the field, and he leaves with our respect.”

Betts paid tribute to all players exiting the Halton Stadium at the end of the season – including retiring duo Chris Bridge and Eamon O’Carroll, who have both already played their last game for the club, Manase Manuokafoa (Albi), Corey Thompson (Wests) and Tom Armstrong (Toronto).

Betts added: “Everyone at Widnes Vikings wishes these players the very best for the next chapter of their lives. I know that all of these players will continue to dedicate themselves, as we look to secure our Super League status.”

Widnes travel to Catalans on Saturday needing to avoid defeat to secure their place in Super League next season.
