Brown relieved injury wasn’t more serious

Widnes stand-off Kevin Brown feared he would be out for months rather than weeks following his injury suffered in the win against Hull FC.

The off-season signing thought he had ruptured his ankle ligaments but was relieved it was only a sprain.

The 28-year-old told the Liverpool Echo: “Initially I feared that I’d ruptured my ankle ligaments. I thought I would need surgery and would be out for three to four months.

“But I saw the specialist earlier this week and he looked at the scan and was happy that it was just a sprain. It’s quit a big sprain mind, but I’m only going to be out for between four to six weeks than months.

“So from the early prognosis, I feel much better now – although, I am never happy having time out of the season. It was painful when it happened. I thought someone had stamped on me and was immediately worrying about the pain in my ankle.

“After watching it back on television I can see that I’ve just taken a massive kick on it. It was pretty freakish.”
