Briscoe: Fans can sing Rovers to victory

Hull KR full-back Shaun Briscoe is hoping the Robins supporters will be in full song when Rovers host arch-rivals Hull FC in Friday’s eagerly-anticipated Super League derby.

With both teams desperate to return to winning ways after defeats this weekend, the England full-back is calling for Rovers fans to make their voices count in front of a capacity crowd at Craven Park.

“It’s always good to have home advantage but never more so than in a derby game. It’s important we make that advantage count,” said Briscoe.

“Our East Stand really give us a lift when they get going. Hopefully they’ll give us the spark on Good Friday.

“They (Hull FC) have only beaten us once at Craven Park in Super League and that’s a record we’d like to keep.”

Wigan-born Briscoe grew up watching great battles between his home-town club and St Helens but the former Hull FC full-back concedes there is nothing in sport to match the passion of a Hull derby.

“It’s really special, there’s just nothing like it in Rugby League,” said Briscoe. “Wherever you go in the city or the villages around Hull you get people in black and white or red and white

“I know the Leeds-Bradford derbies and Wigan-Saints derbies mean everything to their supporters but those fans don’t mingle as much as Hull and Rovers fans do.

“It’s madness really, the way the fans are together. They say Hull is a divided city but the derby really brings people together.”

A limited number of tickets for Good Friday Hull derby clash are still available and can be purchased by calling 0844 2490 105. For those who cannot get a ticket, the game is live on Sky Sports HD1, kick off 12.45.
