Briers lands Warrington coach role

Warrington half-back Lee Briers has taken up a coaching role within the club’s under 19s academy set-up.

Briers, 34, will work alongside newly appointed head coach Danny Fullerton and assistant coaches Chris Rudd and Pete Nicholson, but will continue playing for the first team.

Tony Smith said: “Lee’s been doing some work with juniors at the club for a little while but it’s good to see him progress to something more official. He already has some experience with Wales but it’s great to now see him pass on some of his knowledge to those within the club he’s been with for so long.

“He’s really keen to pursue a coaching career and it’s great that we can help with this but his priority is still playing for the Wolves.”

Briers, who has made more than 400 appearances for the Wolves since joining in 1997, is out of contract at the end of this season on the playing front.

He has been sidelined in recent weeks through injury, but is hoping to return for this weekend’s Challenge Cup tie against Keighley.
