Brett Hodgson bemused by Giants slump

Former Huddersfield fullback Brett Hodgson is baffled by the Giants’ slump in form over recent weeks.

The Giants have suffered five consecutive league defeats starting at with a 27-20 loss away to Catalan. They then lost to Wigan after a Super League break due to the Challenge Cup, before going onto lose to Salford, Widnes and Hull KR.

But Hodgson insists it won’t be long until they claim another league win.

He said: “Sometimes the more you dig yourself out of it the worse it can get for yourself.

“I know they are all pretty upset with how they are going at the moment, and I’m still mates with a couple of the boys so I don’t like seeing them in these slumps.

“It won’t be long before they turn a corner.”

The Giants face London at the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday, a repeat of their Challenge Cup quarter final tie in which the Giants won 50-14.

Hodgson says the Giants’ recent run has hit the squad hard. A win against the Broncos should get Natham Brown’s side back on form ahead of a crucial Challenge Cup semi final, ironically against Warrington.

Hodgson said: “Huddersfield are a top six side, and potentially top four when they are at their best.

“They are well coached and they have some good players in the squad, so I think they just have a lack of confidence at the moment.”
