Brent Calloway fails to win Catalans contract

Former American football player Brent Calloway has failed to impress sufficiently to earn a contract at Catalans Dragons.

The former University of Alabama running back trained with the Dragons’ reserve team this week in Perpignan on a week’s trial.

While the 22-year-old’s phsycial capabilities were very evident, and impressed the coaches at the Perpignan club, the gaps in his game knowledge are too large to be filled in the near future.

“Brent showed a great potential during the physical tests, but having no previous experience of rugby league, he has to learn the game,” said Catalans’ CEO Christophe Jouffret.

“All the coaches were really impressed by his physical qualities.

“But his lack of experience and knowledge of rugby league can not be filled in a few months.

“Anyway, this has been a great experience for him and for our club. We wish him the best for the future.”
