Castleford Tigers have confirmed that young back rower Brandon Westerman has inked a new two-year contract extension at the club.

The Under-19s player has been training with the first team since the 2014 season, and will now remain at the club until at least 2017.

“I’m chuffed to bits to have signed my new deal,” said the player.

“I absolutely love it here, playing for my hometown club is a dream come true. We have a great bunch of guys here who make me feel really welcome.” said Westerman.

Pete Riding, head of youth at Cas, is very pleased that the player has progressed so strongly to this point in his career.

“I am delighted that Brandon has signed this new contract which is not only recognition and reward for his efforts over recent times but further evidence of the value the club puts into producing local players from our own system,” he said.

“Brandon demonstrates the type of character we want to build the club on, in relation to his desire, commitment and dedication to being the best he can be.

“The way Brandon has developed over the last couple of years mirrors the way in which the club has evolved and sends a clear message to other players in our system that there is a clear pathway for local players to progress from the local community game all the way to being a fulltime professional.”
