Bradford welcome open applications over vacant head coaching job
Bradford have opened applications for their vacant role as head coach in the Championship following the departure of Mark Dunning.
The club parted ways with Dunning on Monday by mutual consent, less than 24 hours after the side’s 46-12 defeat to Barrow at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.
It marked Bradford’s fifth defeat of the season, placing them eighth in the Championship table after 10 rounds of action.
Dunning was appointed as permanent head coach last July on a contract until November 2023, having initially acted as interim head coach following the departure of John Kear.
The club confirmed that assistant coach Lee Greenwood will take over on an interim basis.
Bradford are now welcoming open applications, having posted on their website: “The Bradford Bulls are a leading rugby league club, with a proud track record of winning domestic and international titles and of producing world class rugby league players.
“The club are looking to recruit an innovative head coach, to deliver success for our loyal supporter base and who can strongly lead, manage and support the football operation at the club.”
Dunning’s departure
Dunning worked as interim coach for eight games last year, having worked alongside Kear as assistant until his departure in April.
He was later appointed as permanent head coach, finishing the season outside the play-offs in ninth position.
In 2023, Bradford have fallen to defeats to York, Featherstone, Keighley, Batley and most recently Barrow, although they did claim an impressive 28-18 victory over promotion hopefuls Toulouse at Odsal Stadium during Round Four.
Other victories have come against Whitehaven, Widnes, Sheffield and Halifax.
Following his departure, Dunning said: “Having been at the club 10 years it has been a honour and privilege to lead the club as head coach.
“I would like to thank the performance staff, some often going above and beyond, and the players and I wish all concerned the very best for the future. To the fans who have followed the club far and wide, loud and proud, I thank you and hope you get the success you badly crave.”
