Bradford sign Rhys Jacks

Bradford Bulls have confirmed the signing of Canadian international halfback Rhys Jacks from Australian outfit Souths Logan Magpies.

The 25-year-old is on trial with the Championship outfit, after playing for Canada in their two World Cup qualifiers against the USA and Jamaica.

“It’s pretty awesome to be here,” Jacks told his new club’s official website.

“Everything that I’ve seen so far is very professional and I can’t wait to get started.

“In Australia, you hear about most clubs but you hear a lot about Bradford Bulls and the success they had winning Championships and Cups.

“It was definitely a club that I had heard a lot about and I was excited to come and check it out.

“I went from Australia straight to the United States to play for Canada and I only flew back yesterday from Jacksonville.

“I had two games over there, one against Jamaica, who Omari (Caro) plays for, and one against the USA. So that was a really good experience.

“I’m a halfback, I’ve played seven for most of my life. I’ve played a bit at dummy-half as well, but prefer to play at halfback.

“The plan is to make the position my own. They said there is an opportunity to play in that position, so I want to give it my best shot and we’ll see what can happen.

“My best attributes are as a ‘General’ as we call it in Australia. Someone who can lead the team around and get the team to different points on the field and set up plays from there.

“I pride myself on my kicking game as well. I do a lot of work in that area; pinning the fullbacks in the corners and plays like that, as well as attacking kicks.”

Bulls managing director Steve Ferres explained the nature of the deal for the player.

“We have invited him to train and see if he fits in with what we are trying to achieve,” he said.

“The deal is a trail until the necessary visa has been granted.

“He is a good all-round player with good hands and a varied kicking game.

“Hopefully, he can fit the bill for us.”
