Bradford Bulls 24-16 Castleford Tigers

Bradford Bulls were made to fight all the way by Castleford Tigers in the fourth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup, but claimed a 24-16 win over the National League One side after a tense second half.

The Bulls had opened the scoring after just two minutes through Glenn Morrison, but thoughts of a one-sided game were dispensed with seven minutes later when Michael Wainwright equalised.

Bradford, however, restored their advantage with a try from Marcus St Hillaire, converted by Paul Deacon, and Lesley Vainikolo’s touch down, also converted, gave them an 18-6 lead at the break.

The Tigers were the better side after the restart, as Bradford struggled to finish them off, and a try from Michael Shenton cut the gap.

Danny Brough, who was excellent for Castleford, turned provider next, sending Peter Lupton over the line, reducing the arrears to just 18-16 and giving the National league side the sniff of an upset.

But David Solomona touched down to get the Bulls back on track, and kill off any hopes of a giant-killing act from the Tigers.
