Bradford Bulls 18-14 Huddersfield Giants

However, the Giants again came up short in a close-fought encounter – suffering an 18-14 loss to Bradford having held a slender 14-12 lead with just ten minutes of the game remaining.

Newcomer Glenn Morrison spared the Bulls’ blushes with a late try to snatch victory from the jaws of an opening-day defeat.

Huddersfield had opened the scoring after Jamahl Lolesi latched onto Chris Thorman’s kick to touch down; but Bradford hit back soon after with Shontayne Hape doing a similar job with Paul Deacon’s grubber.

And the Bulls pulled into a 12-6 half-time lead when David Solomona – playing at stand-off following Iestyn Harris’ lat withdrawal with flu – cut through the Giants defence for a superb solo try.

Stuart Jones put the visitors back in front with a try after the break on top of two goals from Thorman, and Huddersfield were in prime position to snatch the two points until Morrison’s late try to deny them.
