Newcastle recruit Darius Boyd says he’s excited by the challenge at his new club after making the off-season move from St George.

Boyd began training with the Knights this week after enjoying an extended break following Australia‘s triumphant Four Nations campaign.

Full back Boyd has been coached by Wayne Bennett at both of his former clubs, Brisbane and St George, and will link up with the former New Zealand assistant at Newcastle for 2012.

But it is his involvement with Queensland and Australia that will allow him to settle in and get to know several Knights players.

“I have played with four or five of my new teammates before so it has made the move a bit easier,” said Boyd

“The break has been good and I am looking forward to getting back into training.”

Expectation from the Knights fans coouldn’t be higher after the arrival of coach Bennett, who holds the record for most Grand Final wins.

“There are a lot of good players here and it is a very exciting time for Newcastle,” added Boyd.

“We are all looking forward to challenges the new season will bring and we want to do our best as a team so we have to dig deep and train hard.”
