Bowen keen for Wigan to right World Club Series wrongs

Wigan full-back Matty Bowen is keen to succeed when his team play Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Series next weekend.

The Warriors lost last year’s World Club Challenge game to the Sydney Roosters Down Under.

That was Bowen’s second game for Wigan, and it did not turn out as planned. Now he wants to make up for that defeat against Brisbane.

“The Roosters game was one of my first games for Wigan, and it was disappointing but we are going to get the chance again, obviously though this time against the Broncos,” said the full-back.

2During the last couple of weeks we have been training pretty hard for the World Club Series, we need to play a lot better than we played against Widnes at the weekend; we’ve got one more game to go before the Broncos game and we need to improve.

“I’ve played alongside a few of the Broncos boys in State of Origin so I know quite a few of them and they’re going to come over here as a confident, competitive side.

“They scramble well and they are a good defensive side so we’ll have our work cut out, but I’m sure we’ll be up for it.

“It’s going to be a tough task but we have just got to prepare well and perform.”

Bowen also wants the North of England weather to help create a frosty welcome for the Brisbane team.

“Hopefully it gets colder next weekend!” he said.

“It’s going to be a good game – all three matches in the series are going to be competitive.

“It’s going to be a tough task, the Broncos are a big club, though saying that, Wigan are one of the oldest and most well-known clubs in the world so it’ll be good for us to have a go at them.”
