Bosc dreams of Wembley glory

After missing out on his side’s Carnegie Challenge Cup final appearance in 2007, Catalans Dragons stand-off Thomas Bosc is dreaming of getting his hands on one of sport’s most coveted prizes at Wembley later this month.

The Dragons made their first ever final appearance in the Challenge Cup’s return to Wembley three years ago when they suffered a 30-8 defeat to St Helens. Standing in the Frenchman’s path to Challenge Cup glory this year is a confrontation with current holders Warrington Wolves at Stobart Stadium, Widnes on Sunday August 8.

While Bosc is under no illusions as to the difficulty of the task ahead, the lure of a Wembley final is proving strong.

“To get to Wembley would be a dream for me,” he said. “I missed the last final that Catalans played in and I really want to make it to Wembley this year.

“As a French player it would mean the world to me. When I was younger I used to love watching the Challenge Cup finals and really wanted to play in one myself.”

Despite his side reaching the Challenge Cup semi-final for the second time in three years, Bosc realises his team still have a lot to do if they are to salvage something from what has been a disappointing season, despite them managing to beat the Wolves in a close fought 29-28 encounter last week.

“We are bottom of Super League and Warrington are a good team,” he said. “The Challenge Cup competition is our last chance for success this year and we will give 200 per cent in the semi-final to make sure we reach Wembley.”
