Wakefield full-back Matt Blaymire has signed a new two-year contract at Belle Vue.

Blaymire, 27, joined the club from York City Knights three years ago and has scored 21 tries in 68 Super League appearances for the Wildcats.

He won the club’s ‘Rising Star’ Award at the end of 2007 as Wakefield look to develop and reward home grown talent.

Wildcats Head Coach John Kear believes Blaymire’s consistently high standard of performance has demanded a new deal.

“Matt is one of the best full-backs in Super League and his game has come on a long way in his three years with us.”

“He has been part of the club’s development over those three years and he has been one of our best and most consistent performers in 2009.”

Kear added: “Matt, just like the club, has a desire to keep on improving and he will continue to be an integral part of our very exciting future.”

Blaymire has been part of the club’s impressive progress over the past three years which has seen them rise from survivors to genuine competitors, and he revealed the decision to stay wasn’t a difficult one.

“As soon as I knew the club wanted me to stay there was only one place I was going to be next season and it was just a case of getting the deal sorted out.”

“The team is going the right way and the signings that have been announced for next year should make for another really good season and I want to be a part of that,” added Blaymire.
