Leigh coach Adrian Lam hailed winger Blake Ferguson after scoring twice in their 30-12 win over Featherstone to send the Centurions top of the Championship.

The 32-year-old has made a sensational start to life at Leigh since arriving last month. He has scored 11 tries in five games, all of which he has won.

Former Australia international Ferguson bagged a brace in Leigh’s second win over Featherstone in three weeks on Monday night.

Lam told Love Rugby League: “Blake is world class.

“If you ask all the players, he’s just an extrovert. He puts a smile on everyone’s face and he is the life of the party in the dressing room.

“It is great to have him here and the boys are enjoying every moment of him being here and he is playing his part and taking us to another level with what he does for us.”

Blake Ferguson and Edwin Ipape are fan’s favourites

Papua New Guinea intentional Ipape arrived at Leigh earlier this season from Queensland Cup side PNG Hunters.

The hooker put in a man of the match performance in their 1895 Cup final win over Featherstone, and is loved on the terraces at the Leigh Sports Village.

Lam acknowledged: “He understands he is very fortunate with the opportunity he’s been given.

“He’s making a habit of scoring in front of the Leigh fans. He has got a few levels to improve so we are excited about where he is going to get to in the future.

“He is only going to get better too. Being in a full-time system with us develops the player.

“He is talented already. He’s come through the juniors as a half-back so he could probably played half for us at some stage.

“He is not only a nine, he can play 13 or he can come off the bench and play six or seven, and I want to give him an opportunity there at some stage as well.

“I think he understands the opportunity he has got. He is leading by example with his actions.

“He’s talking in some of the big meetings and saying some important stuff. He is developing as a person too so I’m pleased for him and his family.”
