Blake Austin has signed for Leeds on a one-year deal for the 2022 season

Leeds Rhinos halfback Blake Austin has spoken of his excitement about playing with new teammate Aidan Sezer again.

The pair played together at Canberra Raiders, before Austin’s departure to Warrington Wolves ahead of the 2019 season. Sezer then joined Huddersfield Giants a year later.

Now the pair will line up once again in the Blue and Amber of Leeds. Their last game together was a 26-22 defeat for the Raiders against Brisbane Broncos.

The pair will form the new halfback partnership at the Rhinos, with Rob Lui and Luke Gale both moving on at the end of 2021.

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Austin said: “I’m very excited to be spending a lot more time with Aidan again.

“He followed me over to Super League, and now we get to put on the same jersey week in, week out. It’s very exciting.

“It’s not just going to happen, we have to work hard and that is what pre-season is for. But the most important thing is, we know how to make each other tick. We know what we do and don’t like and we know how to compliment each other.

“Kruise (Leeming), Richie Myler and young Jack (Walker) will be a huge part of what we need to get done this year. I can’t wait to get back and form a few combinations.”

Austin part of new look for Leeds

Leeds will find out their first opponents in the 2022 Super League on Sunday. They finished fifth in the Super League, but were only within 80 minutes of Old Trafford. They were beaten by St Helens in the semi-final.

The Rhinos have made a number of signings to make them competitive in 2022. As well as Austin and Sezer, Leeds have also bolstered the forward ranks with James Bentley joining from Saints.
