Bishop – League far superior to Union

Former Hull KR and Wales forward Dai Bishop has urged Welsh rugby fans to give rugby league a try and watch South Wales Scorpions.

The Scorpions take on Gateshead at The Gnoll in Neath this Sunday and Bishop used his Real Radio Sports Phone-In show to help promote rugby league’s only professional club in the region.

“Come and have a look at the Scorpions,” he said. “We’re not saying choose between union and league but come down and see what they can do. Be open minded about it. Right now you can watch union on a Saturday and League on a Sunday. You can look at both in one weekend and see which one you like best.

“People will be frightfully surprised at what they see. The pace of the game (Rugby League) is outstanding.

“I’m not asking Scarlets, Ospreys, Dragons or Blues fans to give up union and come down, but what you’ve got to do is promote the product on the pitch which, at this moment, is far superior with ball in play, than union.

“There are people out there who are disenfranchised with union, general sports fans. We’re not saying to choose between union and league but come down to The Gnoll this Sunday to take a look at the Scorpions. If you like what you eat for dinner, you’ll come back to the restaurant again. It’s an excellent product that the Scorpions are selling.”
