Exciting young prospect Jack Bird has signed a contract extension with the Cronulla Sharks until the end of 2017.

The 20 year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal that will tie him down to the Sharks for the next two seasons.

Despite St George Illawarra‘s best efforts to recruit the youngster, Cronulla head coach Shane Flanagan has said that it was a difficult time for the playmaker but they are glad it has now been sorted.

“He was a bit distant, he had other things on his mind, people at the Dragons were calling him up, players were ringing him, and the media were asking questions,” Flanagan told foxsports.com.au.

“He wasn’t 100% focused at training. But once he told me he had made up his mind a week before Christmas, he’s been really good. His last two weeks have been outstanding.”

Bird, who can play at centre or at fullback, and has featured in the halves, has expressed his delight at signing at new deal with Cronulla and is looking forward to what the future brings with the club.

“I always knew I was going to sign here, I just didn’t know when,” he said.

“I’m pretty excited about the year ahead and happy to announce I’ll be in the black, white and blue for the next two years.
