2010 Premiers St George are in for a ‘big year’ in the NRL, according to hooker Nathan Fien.

However, commanding a place in the Dragons line up will be the number one challenge for the New Zealand international, who commenced pre-season training this week.

Fien has enjoyed an extended break following his involvement with the Kiwi squad during the recent Four Nations tournament.

But the former North Queensland player is keen to get back to the Dragons squad as preparations contine for the upcoming NRL season.

“It’s a new year and time to focus on the season ahead with the Dragons,” said Fien.

“All the boys have had a really good preseason and are on fire so hopefully it’s a big year for us.

Fien will battle it out with rivals Dean Young and Cameron King for the number two jersey under the watch of new coach Steve Price.

Added Fien: “There’s a lot of young guys at this present time keeping me on my toes so firstly I’ve got to try and keep a spot on the side before going onwards and upwards.”
