Bevan French wants permanent full-back role at Wigan

Bevan French says he would prefer to play full-back for Wigan moving forward.

The 24-year-old joined the Warriors towards the end of last season from NRL side Parramatta Eels.

French started at full-back for Wigan in their 16-10 win over Warrington the Super League opener, but moved in to the halves later in the game.

He commented: “The full-back position gets me in the game a bit more.

“There is a lot more free running in that position and not so much organising.

“I just need to pop up and be where I want to be in and around the ruck and on the edges so I think being in the full-back role gives me a lot more in attack but there is a lot of responsibility in defence.

“I like the challenges in that position so I’d like to play full-back moving forward.”

French picked up the man of the match award after scoring a try and proving an assist.

He added: “I’ve still got a lot of things that I would like to work on.

“I want to be in the game a bit more and be more involved. The more I can get in the game, hopefully more things like that (try) will happen.”
