Widnes coach Denis Betts says the Vikings were massively disappointed to leave Langtree Park without a point.

St Helens pipped Vikings by just two points, a late Mark Percival penalty proving the difference.

“We’re massively disappointed,” Betts said after the game.

“We came here and thought we’d done enough to win. It’s a tough one to take.

“We’ve had two good tussles with them this year.”

Betts described it as a tough game and said the Vikings had their chances to win the match.

“It was a tussle wasn’t it? It was full-bodied,” he said.

“They were desperate…. It was just a real good rugby league game today.

“We had some good opportunities. They defended the line really well.

“We’ve started poorly the last couple of games. We made some poor decsions and poor errors early in the game.

“We wasted that energy that we needed at the end of the game [to win it].”
