Widnes coach Denis Betts said the Vikings shot themselves in the foot in their Easter Monday defeat to St Helens.

Widnes slumped to back to back Easter defeats are going down to Warrington on Good Friday.

Betts said the Vikings were lacking energy and error-prone against Saints.

“We spilled the energy battle all over the place,” he told Sky.

“We just couldn’t keep hold of the ball. The first three tries they scored in the first half were all on the back of repeat efforts. We didn’t have the ball for five minutes.

“We dropped ball, we gave penalties away, we made mistakes. We didn’t get help with a couple of calls but those kind of things go your way when you’ve got some energy.
