Widnes coach Denis Betts is very pleased that his club have drawn Championship opposition in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup.

The Vikings will face Batley Bulldogs in the sixth round of the competition, at the Select Security Stadium on the weekend of May 16 – 17.

“It’s a great draw for us,” said Betts.

“The one thing I am really happy about if the fact that we have got a home draw.

“Whenever you go into a draw for cup games the first thing you want is to be drawn out of the hat first and then you just have to take the luck of whatever comes next.

“To draw a Championship side, although a very competitive side that will turn up with everything to play for, it is probably the draw that every team is looking for at this stage.

“To pick up a home draw and then get a Championship side makes for a very positive situation following the draw.”

Betts also stated that the Challenge Cup is something of a priority for his club this season.

“The Challenge Cup is a massive deal for Widnes Vikings,” he added.

“The competition means a huge amount to the Vikings players and supporters and to everyone associated with the club and the town.

“We want to go as far as we can. With the luck of the draw and some decent home ties you never know what we might be able to achieve this year!”
