Betts: Chase future will take care of itself

Denis Betts says he’s happy to have Rangi Chase on board at Widnes, but has refused to confirm whether he will stay with the club next season.

With his Tigers contract due to expire at the end of 2017, Chase will see out the remainder of the current campaign with the Vikings with a view to securing a deal next year.

Betts said: “That’ll take care of itself – we’ve got the present to look after at the moment. The most important aspect for us at the moment isn’t just getting a team on the field but getting a team that we know can compete.

“We’ve got a really competitive half of the side at the moment and we’re just missing a couple of experienced and talented people to give us something else on our edges.

“Having spoken to Rangi and being around him he’s excited to come over and just get on with playing so he can get regularly on the field.

“I spoke to Rangi a couple of years ago before he moved to Salford and he’s a player that’s exciting to have in the group – there’s no doubt he can play and make things happen.

“I think it’s a real positive move from us to get someone of his quality, and to get an England international.

“You don’t often get the chance to pick up players like Rangi on half-season loans and someone that can break open a game and add quality to the side that he can.”
