Catalans Dragons have announced that hooker David Berthezene will join Salford City Reds on loan for an initial month period.

"David Berthezene will join Salford City reds on loan for an initial period of a month to fill a gap in the hooking role following injury in their squad." said Nicolas Rayer, Catalans Dragons CEO.

First choice Salford hooker Malcolm Alker has been ruled out after he injured his knee in last week's game at home to Wigan, and they have no experienced cover in their squad to fill the number 9 shirt, having released John Clough at the end of last season.

"Having Luke Quigley at 9, keeping a player of David's calibre in the local French League was not endearing nor justified to him. An opportutnity has now come up with Super League Salford City Reds and we are pleased to see David taking up the challenge."

Rayer added: "David is local product of Perpignan rugby league and a tough worker, his time with the Reds will be highly beneficial for his football."

Berthezene is available to make his debut in this weekend's crunch match against bottom club Huddersfield.
