Bennett leaves door open for heritage players

Wayne Bennett has refused to rule out using heritage players for England at this year’s World Cup.

Bennett selected no heritage players, or those born and raised away from the UK, for the Four Nations. But with England’s failure to reach the final speculation has increased that he may select some for the tournament ahead.

“My priority is always to pick the best players,” he said.

“So if they’re in the best players I’ll consider them.”

The likes of Trent Hodkinson, the Morris brothers and Blake Austin are all eligible to represent England.
