Bennett expecting tight World Club Series battle

Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett is predicting another close match against Wigan when the two sides meet this Saturday.

Just two points separated the two teams in 2015 when the Broncos prevailed at the DW Stadium, thanks to a late penalty goal.

Bennett has been studying the Warriors and knows his NRL squad is in for a proper battle against last year’s Super League grand finalists.

“I had a look at some of their games at the moment, they’re playing pretty well,” he told Love Rugby League.

“I don’t think there’ll be much in this game either. They’re a quality footy team, they look like they’ve started the best of the three teams playing at the moment.”

A grinding contest, not a free-flowing encounter is what Bennett is expecting against Wigan.

“In these conditions, I saw the conditions the other day that they were playing under, so it’s not going to be a night for a lot of attractive football,” he said.

“They don’t try to be pretty.”

Former Hull KR and Huddersfield fullback Greg Eden could feature in the World Club Series clash.

Eden has yet to make his NRL debut but Bennett said the Englishman is starting to catch the eye after 12 months at Red Devil.

“He’s had a year and I made him work for what he’s got,” he said.

“He trialed a couple of weeks ago really good, he’s trained much better than he did last year so he’s going in the right direction. I’m not sure after that, but he’s going in the right direction.”
