Ben Westwood could play on for Warrington in 2019

Warrington coach Steve Price has hinted that veteran Ben Westwood may play his way to a new deal for next season.

Westwood, 37, made his 500th career appearance last month and has made 25 appearances for the Challenge Cup finalists this term.

Speaking after the semi-final win over Leeds, Price said if the forward’s form continues, it will be hard not to offer him a new deal.

He said: “If he keeps producing the kinds of performances he has been doing, he will be a Warrington Wire next season.

“He’s the ultimate warrior, and there’s not too many of those left in the game.”

Price also reserved praise for hooker Daryl Clark, hailing him as the benchmark hooker in Super League this season.
