Catalans Dragons coach Steve McNamara has revealed that his captain Ben Garcia nearly lost his ear in a nasty injury at Magic Weekend.

The Dragons captain left the field with the horrific injury to his ear in their 36-10 defeat to Warrington at St James’ Park.

“He’s not good,” McNamara said of France international Ben Garcia after the game. “He’s nearly took his ear off so his ear couldn’t be stitched, it is too bad.

“We are just awaiting news whether he is going to have surgery now or whether we will hold the airplane back so we can try and get him back with us tonight but we are not quite sure. We are just waiting on more news from the plastic surgeons across at the hospital.

“We’re on hold whether we go back together or whether he has to stay overnight. We might have to find an alternative way of getting him back tomorrow.”

Steve McNamara: We weren’t good enough

The Dragons were 24-6 behind against the Wolves at half-time. They did improve in the second half but the damage was already done in the first 40.

McNamara said: “We had a few missing this week but that’s the game, it is a squad game. It is about the players you’ve got, not the players you’ve not got.

“We weren’t good enough. I know we conceded early but I thought we looked okay in the first 10 minutes but then we just offered too much time and space to Warrington. They are a team that if you give them that, they’ve got some great individuals with speed to punish you. We offered that around the ruck and we offered that around the edges and we got what we deserved.”
