Bell urges Featherstone community to back Rovers v Lions game

Former Featherstone Rovers player Keith Bell wants a big crowd for when the club play amateur outfit Featherstone Lions in a preseason friendly on January 3.

The game, which kicks off at 3pm at the Big Fella’s Stadium, is Rovers’ first preseason outing, and is of particular significance to Bell, who is a member of the committee at the Lions.

“We are all looking forward to the tie and it is a good occasion for the town,” he said.

“Over recent years, the relationship between both clubs has improved and I hope the community supports the game.

“We played at the Big Fella’s Stadium earlier this year in the Challenge Cup when we played York City Knights, so it will be good to be back as they looked after us very well.

“Every player representing the Lions is from the town of Featherstone and came through our junior set up which is something we are very proud of.

“The players are all looking forward to testing themselves against Rovers and are relishing the challenge.

“It’s important for rugby league that we work closely with one and another and would good to see this as an annual event going forward.”
