Keighley halfback Matty Beharrell has signed a new contract keeping him at Cougar Park until the end of the 2018 campaign.

Beharrell is the latest in a line of players to commit their future to the League 1 club after Will Milner and Adam Ryder both signed two-year deals.

The 23-year old has put in a string of impressive performances during all three of Keighley’s friendlies which prompted the club to tie him down to a new deal.

An undisclosed release clause has been included as part of Beharrell’s new contract should he attract offers from Super League or Championship sides.

Cougars Chairman Gary Fawcett expressed his delight to see Beharrell to extend his time at the club and expressed his gratitude to both the player and his representative during the negotiations.

“We are delighted that Matty has agreed a new deal with the club for the 2018 season,” he said.

“Both Matty and his agent Craig Murdoch have been fantastic during negotiations over this new deal and I am ecstatic that Matty sees his future in Red, White and Green.”

Fawcett also admitted Keighley head coach Craig Lingard has been clear in who he wants to keep at the club for the upcoming season.

“Craig Lingard has earmarked a number of players he would like to tie down for the 2018 season,” he said.

“We as a club are happy to do so as we look to continue building our progress into what we hope to be a long and successful future under Linners.

“This is a statement of intent from Keighley Cougars as a club as whilst other League One clubs battle to keep their star players ours are happy to stay at Cougar Park.”
