Batley full-back Greenwood receives double honour

Batley Bulldogs full-back Miles Greenwood has been named as the Kingstone Press Championship Player of the week.

It marks a particularly fine week for Greenwood, who scored four tries for his club in their win over Barrow Raiders.

The third of those tries was also judged to be the the Kingstone Press Try of the Week.

“Miles’s tries were all varied but the pick was from a kick return,” said Batley coach John Kear.

2Vinny Finigan made the line break five metres from his own line and took the ball up-field.

“When Barrow’s Ryan Shaw closed him down, up popped Miles on his shoulder and he outpaced the opposition to score.”

Greenwood has now notched 11 tries in his last four games, a brilliant record, which Kear feels is worthy of high praise.

“Miles was solid as a rock fielding the kicks, his defensive work was first class, and his organisation abilities at the back are outstanding,” the Batley coach added.

“But it’s his strike that stands out most.

“He scored four tries, all of them varied and all of them the result of intelligent football.

“He’s such a smart player and reads the game exceptionally well.”
