Bateman wants Wigan to build on Hull win

Wigan forward John Bateman was relieved that his team came through the testing game against Hull FC on Friday to win.

The Warriors have not been in great form recently, and were hammered 42-14 at Castleford in round four of Super League.

But Shaun Wane’s team dug deep on Friday, and emerged 13-12 winners from the game against the Airlie Birds.

“We got the two points and that’s what we’re all about,” said Bateman.

“We’ve got some areas to improve on, but we got the two points and that’s what we wanted.

“We’ve been up and down in the last few weeks, and last week we weren’t at the races at all – it was one of the worst days we’ve had for a while.

“We had a tough week this week, and we’ve all got stuck in.

“We’ve all got areas to improve on, but we’ve got the two points and that’s all that matters.

“We take it week by week. We’ve knocked this week off and got the two points.

“So we’ll go to Headingley next week and get stuck in. It’ll be a big test for us, but I think we can get the two points again.”
