Barrow sign Gene Ormsby

Barrow Raiders have signed free agent Gene Ormsby until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old was released by Huddersfield Giants in February and had since been on trial with Salford Red Devils, but nothing came of it.

Paul Crarey’s Raiders have beaten Championship rivals Swinton Lions to the signature of the winger or centre.

Ormsby scored 25 tries in 35 games for Warrington Wolves between 2014 and 2016 but only played four games in two years for Huddersfield.

On his move to the Raiders, Ormsby said: “I liked Paul’s passion and I like what he said to me and I’ve signed here to play rugby again.

“He drove down to speak to me the other night and I liked what he said to me and I thought ‘this is the club for me’.

“The last 18 months have been tough for me, with not really being in the (Huddersfield) team, so I’m looking forward to getting a bit of consistency back and playing some games and seeing where I can go with the team.

“I reckon I can offer a bit more directness in the outside-back and hopefully, I can get more tries.”

Ormsby could make his debut for the Raiders in their Challenge Cup fourth round tie against Sheffield Eagles on Sunday.
