Barrow Raiders have announced the signing of former Super League forward Jake Emmitt for the remainder of the 2021 Betfred League 1 season.

Emmitt, 32, has made more than 250 career appearances across spells with St Helens, Castleford Tigers, Salford, Leigh Centurions, Swinton, Keighley and Toronto Wolfpack.

He has also won six caps for Wales.

The former Carcassonne forward has most recently featured for Lymm RFC, but will return to league with the Raiders under head coach Paul Crarey.

On the move, Emmitt said: “After Paul rang me telling me about the place, the team and the goals the club are trying to achieve for the rest of the season and beyond, it got me excited about playing again.

“So, I’m hoping I can come in and just help with what the team have been doing already on the field this season.

“I’ve got some close friends up there and they all speak really highly of the people and the place, so I’m just looking forward to getting started.”

Barrow currently sit top of the League 1 table with a win percentage of 86%, and have only lost one game so far in the 2021 season, that defeat coming against Keighley in round 10 at Cougar Park.

Paul Crarey already has former Super League, England and Ireland forward Ben Harrison in his pack, alongside duo Jordan and Adam Walne.

Gary Wheeler, who has appeared for St Helens, Warrington and Toronto, also made the mid-season switch to the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium side, while former Hull FC and Toronto utility back Hakim Miloudi joined the club in May.

Scotland international Shane Toal recently signed a new long-term deal with the club, while winger Tee Ritson also signed a new three-year contract.

Barrow host Hunslet this Sunday at home in round 13 of League 1 as they look to continue their fine form in 2021 and their push for promotion.
