Barrow and Giants fight for Mossop

Huddersfield could hijack Barrow’s bid to extend the loan spell of Wigan youngster Lee Mossop.

Mossop has been on loan at Craven Park for the past month, scoring a try in the Good Friday victory over Whitehaven.

But now Giants boss Nathan Brown has expressed an interest in taking the back-row forward on loan at the Galpharm Stadium.

Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan said: “Huddersfield have asked about Lee Mossop. We want him to learn as much as possible, and we don’t mind whether that’s at Barrow or Huddersfield.”

Mossop impressed Barrow when he appeared for Wigan in their Challenge Cup clash last month, and the Raiders are still hoping to get him back for another month or two.

Vice-chairman Dave Sear said: “Lee Mossop loves it here, and we’d love to get him back at Barrow for another month. He has been brilliant with us and has just got better and better with each game.

“Lee has conducted himself in a most professional manner. He is a credit to himself and a credit to Wigan.

“His attitude has been great and, even at the age he is at, if you look at the size and athletic ability he has got, in the not-too-distant future he could well be wearing a GB shirt.”

Barrow coach Dave Clark added: “We are expected to speak to Wigan again in the next 24 hours. We’ll see what happens and we’re still fighting for him. It’s a good opportunity for him here to get more first-team experience.”
