Australia 42-0 Papua New Guinea

Hot favourites Australia sent out an ominous warning for next week’s opponents England with a 42-0 crushing of Papua New Guinea.

The result was never in doubt after tries from Billy Slater, Brent Tate, Cooper Cronk, Willie Tonga and Brett Morris gave the hosts a considerable first half lead.

After the break, Cameron Smith crossed before Darren Lockyer scored a national record 34th try and Tonga‘s second rounded off a comprehensive victory.

Australia dominated possession, and despite some vigorous defence at times, Papua New Guinea, making their Four Nations debut, were thoroughly outplayed.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed yesterday that Wales will line up alongside England, Australia and New Zealand in next year’s competition after they defeated France 12-11 in the European Cup decider at Albi.
