Aston encouraged by Thorpe’s progress

Sheffield Eagles coach Mark Aston has revealed that prop Steve Thorpe is making good progress with his rehabilitation from a broken leg.

The prop, one of the Eagles’ top performers last season, broke his leg in the Super 8s Qualifiers game against Widnes at the back end of the 2015 season.

But Thorpe is engaged in preseason work, and looks like being two months or so from being fully fit.

“He is back in training and he is doing most of pre-season,” Aston told The Sheffield Star.

“His fitness is very good which we expect; he just has the next barrier in front of him now.

“It is only four months (since the injury), but we expected a six-month absence, so he has another important month ahead of him, but I don’t think he will be far away from being fit for the beginning of the season.”
