Toronto Wolfpack have signed centre Tom Armstrong from Widnes.

Armstrong, 27, has secured an early release from his two-year deal with the Vikings to join the former Leigh contingent in Canada.

He said: “I’ve really valued and enjoyed my time at Widnes Vikings. I came here looking to prove myself in the Super League and I’m pleased that I’ve been able to show that I can mix at this level.

“Unfortunately, I’ve had a difficult time with injuries and have been unable to establish myself in the way that that I hoped. It now feels like the right time to explore new opportunities.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to move to Toronto Wolfpack. I am looking forward to working under Paul Rowley again and to be playing alongside former teammates from my time at Leigh Centurions. This represents a new challenge and the opportunity to enjoy a new experience.

“I’d like to thank all my teammates and everyone at Widnes Vikings. I’ll be continuing to give 110% to support this year’s campaign and wish the Club well for the seasons ahead.”

Armstrong has featured 11 times for Widnes having joined in the off-season from Leigh.
