South Sydney Rabbitohs have signed half-back Anthony Milford from Brisbane Broncos for the 2022 season.

The 27-year-old has made 189 NRL appearances to date during his time with Canberra Raiders and the Broncos.

Milford has won seven caps for Samoa on the international stage and has played two games for Queensland in State of Origin.

Rabbitohs head of football Mark Ellison said: “We’re really excited to have Anthony joining our club in 2022.

“He comes to us highly recommended by Wayne (Bennett, coach) and JD (Jason Demetriou, incoming head coach in 2022) who both worked with him at the Broncos where he played a leading role in taking them to the 2015 Grand Final.

“At his best he is one of the most electrifying players in the game and we’re certain he will put his best foot forward with our club next season.

“He has a tremendous amount of experience for a man that’s only 27 years of age, we believe he has his best football in front of him, he will get the chance to work with coaches who were leading halves in Ben Hornby, John Morris and John Sutton as well as his former mentor when he was at his peak in Jason Demetriou, and we think a change of club into our system could see us unlock those brilliant performances from Anthony that all rugby league fans remember fondly.

“We wish him the best of luck for the rest of the season with the Broncos and we look forward to having him join us for the 2022 pre-season.”

Elsewhere in the NRL, Canberra captain Elliott Whitehead has signed a new deal that will see him stay with the Raiders until at least the end of 2024.

The 31-year-old forward has made 138 appearances for Canberra since his move Down Under ahead of the 2016 season. He helped the Raiders reach the NRL Grand Final in 2019.
