Alex Gerrard wants Widnes to stay focused at Salford

Widnes forward Alex Gerrard knows that the Vikings must not lose any focus when they face Salford on Friday night.

Widnes have already confirmed their place in the top-eight, and are now looking to find some form to take into the knock-out games which await.

“Salford’s going to be really tough game on Friday,” Gerrard said.

“But if we can get over the top of them and get the two points, then it’s the play-offs and we’re really looking forward to it.

“They’ve got nothing to lose. They’ll come out and just enjoy the game. We’ve just got to go there with a performance, and make sure that we turn up and do the job.

“We’ve got to turn up with a professional attitude. We want to win and we want to go into the play-offs in winning form.

“We want to turn up there and do the job.”

Widnes have been something of a surprise package this season, going quietly about their work. That contrasts with Salford, who have barely been out of the news during this campaign.

“When Salford turn up they can play really well,” Gerrard said.

“It’s just their consistency, possibly. But with ourselves, we’ve had a really good year.

“We’ve worked really hard for each other and we deserve to be where we are now.”
