Alex Gerrard signs new Leigh deal

Josh McAllister

Leigh have announced the re-signing of Alex Gerrard until the end of the 2021 season.

The forward made more than 110 appearances for Widnes before leaving for Australia in 2018.

He joined Leigh in January after a brief spell with the Mackay Cutters, and made his debut against Dewsbury in the first game of 2020.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Leigh so far after being thrown in at the deep end. We made a good start to the 2020 season so it was obviously a big disappointment that the group didn’t have the chance to show what they could do.

“There is a great group of lads at the club and I know John Duffy very well having been at Widnes when he was still playing. What I like about John as a coach is that he makes the players’ roles as clear as possible and this is a group which I think will come back even stronger next season.”
