Former Hull FC and Hull KR star Albert Kelly went the length of the field in Brisbane Broncos’ opening round win over South Sydney Rabbitohs in the NRL.

The 30-year-old started for the Broncos as they beat last year’s Grand Finalists South Sydney 11-4 in their first game of the season.

Kelly scored the game’s opening try in the 21st minute as he made an intercept and raced 90 metres to score near the posts.

Kelly was given a starting shirt by Broncos coach Kevin Walters and he certainly made his mark. He played alongside Billy Walters in the halves, with former Warrington half-back Tyrone Roberts coming off the bench.

Kelly 146 metres from 10 carries in an impressive display for Brisbane. The former Super League maverick also made 16 tackles.

Kelly made a huge impact during his time in Super League. He scored 23 tries in 43 appearances for Hull KR between 2015-16, helping the Robins reach the Challenge Cup final in 2015.

In 2017 he made the move across the river to city rivals Hull FC. He spent four seasons with the Airlie Birds, scoring 44 tries in 74 games.

Kelly helped Hull FC win the Challenge Cup in 2017 and was also named in the Super League Dream Team in the same season.

Kelly announced that he would be returning home to his native Australia at the end of the 2020 campaign to be closer to his family.

He linked up with the Broncos in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since. He has made nine appearances for Brisbane so far.

This isn’t Kelly’s first club in the NRL though. He made 47 appearances for Cronulla Sharks and Gold Coast Titans between 2010-14 prior to his move to England.
